Trauma is any experience that overwhelms your ability to cope. Trauma can contribute to developing a range of conditions including chronic anxiety/worry, depression, obsessive compulsive disorder, and post traumatic stress disorder. People living with trauma experience difficulties in their relationships, parenting, at work, and more. Therapy can help address the root cause of these difficulties and help you build a life where your trauma is one important chapter, but not the whole story.
People who have survived a range of traumatic experiences such as losing a loved one unexpectedly, having a seriously ill child, a severe car accident, rape and sexual assault, and more. Therapy is particularly helpful if you find that these experiences from the past are showing up today in ways that you don't want such as excessive worry, intrusive memories, nightmares, and superstitious behavior.
My approach depends on what symptoms are bothering you the most. I use a strengths-based lens and I am trained in evidenced-based trauma treatments such as cognitive processing therapy. I am currently completing EMDR training. I can also help you process the experiences in a safe supportive environment to help improve understanding, increase self-compassion, and increase your sense of psychological safety.
Sessions would be weekly and virtual. Treatment length varies depending on a patient's treatment goals but improvements in quality of life can be achieved in as short as 4-6 months.
Traumatic experiences can fundamentally shift who you are and how you understand the world. You deserve real support and treatment as you navigate that process.
